Powerup Your Mind: Your Weekly Dose of Intellectual Freedom!
The brainpower of AI. How the company you keep may determine success in life. Freedom of speech. Moral wisom past and present, and much more.
Hope you had a great week!
As usual, the mainstream media had all kinds of crazy news this week: Mexican space aliens, Hunter Biden's smoking gun, inflation still plaguing ordinary people like us, and our ongoing proxy war with Russia in Ukraine, to name just a few.
In Intellectual Freedom this week, the focus was on AI Technology, especially how this life-altering technology is advancing so rapidly that machines are starting to demonstrate human characteristics. The implications for the world and humanity are profound.
The other core topic is personal. Does the company you keep help elevate yourself personally, spiritually, and professionally? Or do the people you hang out with, the websites you visit, and the social media you engage bring you down? It's a big, important question we all need to answer as it can change the directory of your life.
I hope you enjoy the articles and podcasts. By all means, share, subscribe, or contact me. I always love hearing from you via email or in the comments section.
What I am reading.
Those of you, long-time followers of Intellectual Freedom, know that we spent hours deep-diving into this book earlier this year. I love it, as I podcasted multiple episodes on the various subjects.
The cool thing about this book is that it is a collection of readings from various sources, including philosophical texts, religious texts, and literary works. The readings are arranged chronologically, covering five historical periods: ancient Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Enlightenment, and the 20th century.
It gives readers a broad overview of ethical thought from different cultures and periods. The readings are accompanied by introductions and annotations that help to put the readings in context and to facilitate discussion. If you are into ethics, morality, and the study of culture in an easy-to-understand format, give this book a try!
Somebody to Check Out on Substack…
I was initially turned on to The Free Press after listening to Barri Weiss speak on a podcast. I was so impressed I started paying more attention to her after she broke away from the traditional media establishment of the New York Times. She has formulated quite a team of writers and editors that provide independent and thought-provoking content across all areas of language, culture, society, politics, and religion.
I don't always agree with the work here, but that is the point. The Free Press is a fierce defender of free speech and diligently covers all sides of contentious issues. For this reason alone, I wholeheartedly support her content.
Please have a look. I think you will enjoy it.
