Shared Values: Exploring the Common Ground of Abrahamic Religions
How Judaism, Christianity, and Islam can be a force for good in a postmodern world.
Yes, it is true, the Middle East and Abrahamic tradition is riddled with war, hate, and distrust; yet, a new enemy has emerged—postmodernism and a world devoid of God, any god at all. This is a threat all Abrahamic faiths must confront.
Religion stirs up intense emotions in believers and non-believers alike. Faith has long been a source of both unity and division throughout history. Yet, there is deep wisdom to be found in all faiths, and since over 3.8 billion report to be either Jew, Christian, or Muslim, there is much to learn and understand here.
In today's world, where conflicts and tensions run hot on the cultural front, it is more important than ever for these religions to find common ground and unite for the greater good.
Faith beyond differences is possible, and Abrahamic religions can inspire people to unite, promote peace and harmony, and work towards a better world. Now more than ever, the world needs theologies across faiths to band together for the common good.
How can these three religions ever dream of unity?
Firstly, the Abrahamic religions share many fundamental values and principles, including a belief in one God, a reverence for prophets and holy scriptures, and a focus on moral and ethical conduct. These shared beliefs provide a strong foundation for unity and cooperation between these religions.
Furthermore, the Abrahamic faiths also share a deep history and culture, with many similarities in their traditions, customs, and practices. By recognizing and celebrating these similarities, rather than rage of the differences, the followers of these religions can create a sense of community and belonging that can attract rather repel people to religion.
In addition, the Abrahamic religions can inspire people to come together and work towards a common goal. Throughout history, religion has been a powerful force for positive change, inspiring individuals and communities to fight against injustice, poverty, and oppression. By working together, the followers of the Abrahamic religions can harness this power to create a better world.
The believers in their mutual kindness, compassion and sympathy are just like one body. When one of the limbs suffers, the whole body responds to it with wakefulness and fever. ~Muhammad
For instance, interfaith organizations that promote mutual understanding, dialogue, and cooperation already exist, making inroads into this unity concept. These ground-breaking organizations provide a platform for people of different faiths to unite, share their experiences, and work towards a common vision of positive change. The Abrahamic Path Initiative and Interfaith Youth Core are but two examples, but there are many others.
Abrahamic religions can promote peace and harmony by emphasizing the importance of compassion, forgiveness, and tolerance. The ideas are theological cornerstones of their respective religions. Now is the time to live them, not just read about them! By focusing on these values, followers of these religions can build bridges between different communities, promote understanding and respect, and reduce tensions and conflicts.
Finally, these religions can provide hope and optimism in a chaotic and uncertain world. By inspiring people to come together and work towards a common goal, the Abrahamic religions can provide a sense of purpose and meaning that can help individuals to overcome personal and societal challenges in a rather divisive and nihilistic world.
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! ~Psalms 133:1
In conclusion, a new perspective and unity amongst the Abrahamic religions is possible and necessary in today's world. The Abrahamic religions offer a unique opportunity for people of different faiths to come together, share their experiences, and work towards a common vision.
By recognizing their shared heritage and values, promoting mutual understanding and respect, and emphasizing the importance of compassion and tolerance, these religions can inspire people to work towards a better world.

Additional Article this Week
I wrote this article to describe what I learned working part-time at a UPS warehouse. There is always much to be learned reading and studying, but on the warehouse floor I learned important lessons about a world that was unfamiliar to me.
